Magnificat

LATIN
Magnificat anima mea Dominum,
et exultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo,
quia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae.
Ecce enim ex hoc beatam me dicent
omnes generationes, quia fecit mihi magna
qui potens est, et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericordia eius
ad progenie in progenies timentibus eum.
Fecit potentiam in brachio suo,
dispersit superbos mente cordis sui,
deposuit potentes de sede,
et exaltavit humiles,
esurientes implevit bonis,
et divites dimisit inanes.
Suscepit Israel puerum suum
recordatus misericordiae suae,
sicut locutus est
ad patres nostros
Abraham et semini eius in saecula.
Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto
Sicut era in principio, et nunc, et Samper
Et in saecula saeculorum.
Amen
ENGLISH
My soul doth magnify the Lord.
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior.
Because He hath regarded the humility of His slave:
For behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Because He that is mighty hath done great things to me; and holy is His name.
And His mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear Him.
He hath shewed might in His arm: He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.
He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich He hath sent empty away.
He hath received Israel His servant, being mindful of His mercy:
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed for ever.
Glory be the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, forever and ever,
Amen.

Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation Dei Verbum Nº 21

The Church has always venerated the divine Scriptures just as she venerates the body of the Lord, since, especially in the sacred liturgy, she unceasingly receives and offers to the faithful the bread of life from the table both of God's word and of Christ's body. She has always maintained them, and continues to do so, together with sacred tradition, as the supreme rule of faith, since, as inspired by God and committed once and for all to writing, they impart the word of God Himself without change, and make the voice of the Holy Spirit resound in the words of the prophets and Apostles.
Therefore, like the Christian religion itself, all the preaching of the Church must be nourished and regulated by Sacred Scripture. For in the sacred books, the Father who is in heaven meets His children with great love and speaks with them; and the force and power in the word of God is so great that it stands as the support and energy of the Church, the strength of faith for her sons, the food of the soul, the pure and everlasting source of spiritual life. Consequently these words are perfectly applicable to Sacred Scripture: "For the word of God is living and active" (Heb. 4:12) and "it has power to build you up and give you your heritage among all those who are sanctified" (Acts 20:32; see 1 Thess. 2:13).

Furrow Nº 90, Author: Saint Josemaria

Optimism? Yes, always! Even when things seem to turn out badly: perhaps that is the time to break into a song, with a Gloria, because you have sought refuge in Him, and nothing but good can come to you from Him.

Psalm 77, 3-8

We have heard and known such great things,
as our fathers have described to us.
These things have not been hidden
from their sons in any generation:
declaring the praises of the Lord, and his virtues,
and the wonders that he has done.

And he has received testimony with Jacob,
and he has set a law within Israel.
Such great things, he has commanded our fathers,
so as to make these things known to their sons,
so that another generation
might know them, and so that the sons,
who will be born and who will grow up,
shall describe them to their sons.

So then, may they put their hope in God,
and may they not forget the works of God,
and may they seek his commandments.
May they not become like their fathers,
a perverse and exasperating generation:
a generation that does not straighten their heart
and whose spirit is not trustworthy with God.

Luke 7,40

Jesus said to him in reply, "Simon, I have something to say to you." "Tell me, teacher," he said.

James 3, 14-18

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. Wisdom of this kind does not come down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.

For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every foul practice. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace.
